Vehicle Description

Unique GM History- The original Corvair was introduced by GM in 1960 as a 'sporty compact. It was the most unique car GM had ever put into production. There were a 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan, both with air-cooled flat-6 engines mounted in the rear and backed by either a 2-speed automatic or 3-4 speed manual rear transaxle. In 1965, GM introduced the Gen2 Corvair - much more stylish and comfortable. Original No Frills- This '66 Corvair coupe is an outstanding, original example of the base no-frills Corvair 500 model. The factory Willow Green finish is still in overall good condition; however, there are a few blemishes in the paint. Factory 13 steel wheels have factory dog-dish hubcaps and mount nice Maxxis radial tires. Chrome and stainless are excellent. One Option- The fawn tan vinyl interior is in good condition. The basic 500 package included all-rubber floor mats, and this car was also radio delete. The Corvair is equipped with seat belts, an option in '65. Flat Six Power- Power is furnished by an air-cooled 164ci flat-six that was built with a steel crank, alloy cylinders and aluminum heads. It is equipped with an oil cooler and was rated at 95hp/155lb-ft. The engine is said to have never been rebuilt and it sounds strong. The Corvair is equipped with the 3-speed all-synchro manual transaxle, manual steering and manual drum brakes. Major Service Done- Recent major service has been performed on steering components, the brake system (including dual master) and the shifter mechanism. This Corvair is a piece of GM history taken from the dynamic era of American 'compact cars' - the '60s. All AutoBarn vehicles receive a comprehensive inspection.
