Vehicle Description

1935 Chevrolet Master DeLuxe 2 Door Town Sedan Chevrolet, with its Master DeLuxe models for 1935, introduces a new and thrilling style to the low priced field, a style so true to every artistic dictate as to win instant appreciation and exert enduring charm. All lines flow unbroken from the high, narrow radiator, even the roof presenting a perfectly smooth surface. The smooth roof lines flow into the sides which arch in pronounced and graceful contours. From the 1935 sales brochures. For consignment, a 1935 Chevrolet Master DeLuxe 2 door town sedan showing 74,099 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. The exterior and drivetrain were restored 15 years ago, and a full interior comes with the car ready to be installed to continue the restoration. Exterior Our example now wears a two tone presentation of single stage Brown Poly over Black, the flared fender standing out in contrast and connected by a wide running board. The decidedly upright car in profile is bolstered by rear fender skirts with sweeping trim while the rounded roofline drops precipitously to a perfectly vertical back, visually and functionally augmented by an encased spare. Side windows today are angular and square, but rounded windows were commonplace then and housed in oval-esque framing. Up front, a stylized eagle hood ornament looms over the tall grille, big headlights, and yellow fog lights. Imperfections include inclusions in the paint, paint runs, substantial chipping paint on the cowl, rough surfaces near the hood trim, bubbling, cracking and chipping throughout, and other areas of rough surface and orange peel.  Interior As noted, the interior has not been refurbished so the Mohair panels of the coach style doors are in rough condition and the front bucket seats require a cover to hold together. The bench in back fares a bit better with plenty of damage but mostly intact with button tufting. Heavy patina afflicts the banjo steering wheel but the dashboard is in very good comparative condition with glossy paint and brown knobs and woodgrain panels. A rubberized black mat covers the floor from which the shifter rises with a plastic handle in proximity to a vintage GM fan. The mohair headliner and windlace shows age as they do and includes a few holes.   Drivetrain Under the engine cover is a very clean powerplant, a 206.8 inline six cylinder with a 1-barrel carburetor and mated to a 3-speed manual transmission routing power to the rear axle with 4.11 gears. There are wooden clothespins holding a line in place and we're going to call that a proper period fix in the days before zip ties.  Undercarriage It's aged but not rusty, other than typical surface rust. There's some residual oil about but no major leaks that we can see. Drum brakes are at all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs in front with leaf springs in back. A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler, exiting towards the rear of the car.  Drive-Ability The seats are a bit rickety but the engine certainly isn't and rolls us on to the test loop in fine style. The 17-inch wire wheels and their 5.25 wide tires do a good job of tracking straight and visibility is very nice through the side windows with more of a telescopic view out back. All functions other than the clock and AM radio operate as they should on this older restoration. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.  Even though the '35 sales brochure goes to great lengths to describe the shape of the car, nothing compares to seeing in person as what was relatively common and typical for the time, is now regal and stately today.  With some TLC, fresh paint, and the interior installed, you'll have a ready made show car that represents mid Depression America with some forward thinking design by Chevrolet. 2EA02421327
